Howard Purcell, OD, has joined Essilor of America, Inc., as vice president of customer development. In this newly created role, he will continue to build on Essilor's current successes while increasing coordination and visibility among brand sales, professional relations, and ECP education groups. Jeffrey A. McLean has been named executive vice president of commercial strategies for CooperVision. McLean previously served as president of CooperVision's Americas region. In his new role, McLean will be responsible for managing CooperVision's global commercial strategies, including the integration of marketing, product development, manufacturing, and sales across the organization. Paul H. Sartori, PhD, has joined Bausch & Lomb as corporate vice president and chief human resources officer. From 2000 to 2007, Sartori was a partner and principle at CHM Partners International, LLC, an international executive search and management consulting firm. Raymond Elliott and Richard F. Wallman have joined Bausch & Lomb's board of directors. Elliott served as chairman, president, and CEO of Zimmer Holdings, Inc., from 2001 until his retirement in 2007. Wallman was senior vice president and CFO of Honeywell International, Inc., from 1995 until his retirement in 2003. |
AWARDS
SECO International announced its 2008 award winners for contributions to optometry. Norman Johnson, OD, was named Optometrist of the South, SECO's highest honor. Darby Chiasson, OD, received SECO's Young Optometrist of the South award, and Cheryl Gallant was named Paraoptometric of the South. The President's Award was given to Richard Weisbarth, OD, past-president of the American Academy of Optometry.
BUSINESS UPDATES
Vision-Ease Lens' Ramsey, Minn., facility now manufactures all products with 100 percent renewable energy. Through an electric distribution cooperative, all energy purchased for the facility is generated through renewable power such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric.
VSP Vision Care and Transitions are teaming up to guarantee satisfaction on Transitions VI lenses to VSP members. The program allows VSP doctors to offer their VSP-member patients up to six months to try their new lenses. If they aren't satisfied, VSP will replace their Transitions lenses with clear ones for free.
The Vision Care InstituteTM, LLC, has opened satellite learning centers at the Northeastern State University Broken Arrow Oklahoma College of Optometry and the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry to provide professional-level training opportunities for optometry students via distance learning and live programming at on-campus satellite centers.
