De Long's 25-year career in low vision includes the roles of vice president of new business ventures for Coburn Optical, vice president of marketing and sales at Visionics Corp., and president and CEO of Vision Advantage. Safilo has named Vincenzo Giannelli chief financial officer, effective Sept. 1, 2010. Giannelli will report directly to Roberto Vedovotto, Safilo's chief executive officer.

Lossing will be awarded $5,000 and the runner-up, Jennifer Hodgen from Southern California College of Optometry, will receive $2,500.
