4 DESIGN ESSENTIALS Prodesign's new Essential 1694-99 collection is characterized by distinctive milled patterns made from three layers of acetate—the pattern is milled down to reveal the second color on the frame front and temples. The frames feature both a high-fashion white and a bold red front color on the men's shapes, while the women's shapes are engraved to show off both a cream brown and a deep petrol. Designed with a mix of shapes and colors to tempt markets across the globe, the introduction of these new colors is different from what Prodesign has done in the past with the Essential collection, company representatives note. The new grouping includes six eye shapes in two to four colors each. Each of the new frame shapes is progressive lens friendly. INFO: 800-654-6099, prodesigndenmark.com | |

9 N.Y. State of Mind The new Rye & Lye eyewear collection, distributed in the U.S. by Villa Eyewear for Immagine Eyewear in Italy, gets inspiration from the parks and the theaters of Manhattan. Building on the previous collections' storyline of interesting eyewear consumers and the locations where they work and play, this collection focuses on New York locals and tourists. For this campaign, launched at Mido, Rye & Lye uses its newest frame styles to create a storyboard. Photographing new characters, the collection shows off its latest “personalities''—the company's name for styles—capturing the essence of those who embody the line's models. Previous personalities featured have run the gamut. “They involved the biologist, the bookmaker, the free climbers, the financial man, the rescue divers, the architect, the creative director, model, and the traveler. This season, they get to know two other outstanding personalities: a rugby player who lives in the team philosophy, and a research photographer who, through lights and shadows, conveys her eros in a provocative and poetic way,” company representative say. The new Rye & Lye collection features a total of nine new styles. The collection is adorned with leather, velvet, and wood, and the models design delves into details and colors. |
FRAME INSIGHTS: Lindberg's Teen Awards | |
---|---|
Danish eyewear company Lindberg's youth-focused eyewear has recently won a pair of major design awards. The first of the awards for the Lindberg's Acetanium Teen was the red dot product design award. The international jury award of a “red dot” for product design quality marked a win in a competitive design field. The 2012 red dot awards saw 1,800 manufacturers and designers from 58 countries competing for a total of 4,515 registrations in 19 categories. Previous red dot winners include Apple, adidas, Tupperware, and Grohe. The second award for the youth-oriented collection was the GOOD DESIGN award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. “GOOD DESIGN is one of the world's most recognized programs for design excellence—not least because it is considered the oldest,” Lindberg representatives note. The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies receive submissions from thousands of manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms from almost 50 countries. Other winners ran the gamut from the Easyshare Mini Camera from the Kodak Company, the Vestel Le BRAILLE Remote Control from Vestel Electronics Co., and the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 Photon by Design Partners. The Lindberg Acetanium Teen range uses titanium-reinforced acetate to provide frames that can be thinner than with traditional acetate. This collection is ideal for young people looking for eyewear that is lightweight, yet distinctive in appearance. The Lindberg Acetanium Teen range combines the use of acetate and titanium by using an integral titanium bridge for a fashion-statement look, while making sure the titanium-reinforced acetate frame is easy to wear.
