So, you’ve survived the holidays and now is the time to tackle your 2018 To-Do List. If being more active and consistent on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter is on your list—then you’re in the perfect place.
the month of January kick starts our new Social Media Hot List for eyecare professionals. Each month, we’ll lay out a lineup of inspiring content to help your business #grow + make your life #easier.
And, as a bonus, we’ve included all the corresponding post images our social media guru, Tanya Gill, O.D., has created for you to download and use for free right from our very own EB website (see link in the box on this page). Eyecare Business is now the first optical publication to take the 2D experience into 3D—taking the reader’s experience from paper (or screen) to adding in a takeaway usable asset.
Here, Dr. Gill gets us started with three solid posting ideas (and downloads) for you to use this month.
1. #NationalCheeseLoversDay
For millions of people who are not lactose intolerant, cheese does makes the world go ‘round. On Jan. 20 be sure to impress your string-cheese-pulling, cheddar-loving, pizza-obsessed customers with the #NationalCheeseLoversDay hashtag somewhere in your caption. A great way to get interaction with followers is to ask and answer in the caption: “What’s your choice of creamy happiness? Ours is Petite Supreme Brie.” You can also ask your staff to answer from their private accounts to get the cheese ball rolling!
2. Glaucoma Awareness Month
Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness in the United States.
ECPs fear it. The general population, not so much. We know that the best defense against glaucoma is a yearly comprehensive eye exam.
Let’s face it. The public doesn’t care about glaucoma like they care about their cheddar cheese—so creating a post that creates a call to action in a fun way can be very effective.
Here, I created a fun and simple three-post campaign (below) where the call to action is to get an eye exam.
3. Dr. Gill’s Quote of the Day
Quotes are an essential component to a successful social media program. Quotes are fun, highly shareable, and uniquely tell the story of your brand’s values.
For January, I created a couple of inspiring quotes that do just that without being over-salesy. From the ECP standpoint, the goal is to sell glasses. From the customer standpoint, glasses are so fun! This is what we call a win-win.
Posting Tip for January: Keep your eyes on the time.
And don’t forget to post at least one time each weekday at 9 a.m., noon, or 5 p.m. This is when your customers are getting to work, on lunch, or leaving work and most likely to be scrolling through their social media feed.
