Today, in this distinct moment in history, we as an industry recognize the incredible importance of our optical family now more than ever.
Five and a half weeks ago when I last sat down to write this editorial for our April issue, the world was grinding to a halt to help flatten the curve and save lives. Forty incredible, unthinkable days later—as practices look to reopening—we are united together more as an industry and profession than ever before.
From optometrists working as front-line everday heroes delivering emergency care to lighten the load on ERs across the country, to opticians providing virtual fittings and curbside pickup, and optical companies pivoting to make PPE, face shields, and slit lamp shields—the selfless and intense effort is truly inspiring.
We are so proud to be a part of this family.
Here at EB, we have also pivoted and have been working very hard to deliver the relevant content and strategies you tell us that you need right now. In this issue, you will find the eye-opening results of our Covid-19 + ECPs Focus Group Study, which pinpoints ECP opinions on everything from plans for reopening to telemedicine and the crisis’ financial impact.
We also tap into two veteran ECPs who share their own specific plans and steps for reopening their practice and the optical dispensary. We partner with GPN to reveal sales and exam data for ECPs from January to April, and Chief Economist Brian Beaulieu shares his view of the economic outlook for ECPs now.
EB’s DNA is rooted in providing business strategies for ECPs, and that focus is now more important for us than ever before.
