Cut + Color
Victor Glemaud is colorful.
When we first met at his much-lauded appearance at Vision Expo East last month, his 6-foot-plus frame was swathed head to toe in an expertly cut, slim light pink (with a hint of a salmon tone) suit.
This delightful curation of color infuses everything the Haitian-American designer touches, from his sophisticated and luxurious ready-to-wear clothing “designed for all people, genders, races, sizes, and personalities” to his new eyewear collection with Tura (see page 49 for more). Raised in Queens, NY, Glemaud began his fashion resume studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology and went on to work as studio director at Paco Rabanne and style director at Tommy Hilfiger.
Here, the designer sits down with EB to share the details on his new eyewear collaboration.
EB: Congratulations on the launch of your eponymous eyewear collection with Tura. How did this collaboration for eyewear come about?
VICTOR GLEMAUD: We were introduced by Karen Giberson of the Accessories Council. Upon our first meeting, I felt there was integrity and an authentic desire to address the needs of an overlooked demographic.
EB: Do you feel that there is a gap in the industry with eyewear focusing on the fit and style needs of people of color?
VICTOR: Many of the women in my life, including family and friends, wear glasses, and the fit and style were always a challenge; Tura has addressed this fit need with several details. An entire demographic has been overlooked and I am thrilled to be among those providing a solution to a real issue.
EB: In what ways does the DNA of your womenswear come through in the eyewear collection?
VICTOR: My brand is bold, colorful, joyful, and inclusive. It was incredibly important that these pillars extended into the partnership with Tura; I really feel the range captures the spirit of my brand.
EB: What is your own favorite style in the collection?
VICTOR: The VGS001 in gold. These cat-eyes have it all: ombre, enamel inlay, and cool temples.
EB: Why is eyewear an essential accessory for women today?
VICTOR: Eyewear allows you to express yourself instantly. It should not be a luxury to have well-fitting eyewear. I hope we provide confidence and style to anyone who wears them.
