Rectangular eyewear took on multiple personalities at a recent Joseph Abboud presentation at Marchon’s New York City showroom, where the latest JOE and Joseph Abboud frames explored transparency, gradients, menswear-inspired textures, and a wider range of fits.
For JOE, rectangles ranged from slim east-west silhouettes to deeper, softly squared profiles. Crystal was a recurring theme, appearing in clear, gray, olive, and smoky treatments as well as gradients that deepen across the frame.
JOE 4125 spotlighted crystal-gradient colorations, while JOE 4128 paired crystal coloration and a matte finish with plant-based resin. Keyhole bridges and understated metal detailing added further variation.
Sustainability was integrated into the materials story. JOE stands for “Just One Earth,” and the brand cites sustainability as part of its eyewear identity. Marchon says its upcycled plastic repurposes recycled plastic water bottles and its plant-based resin is made from castor-bean oil.
Joseph Abboud moved toward more tailored effects, including horn-inspired brown and gray colorations, dual-tone metals, slim profiles, and acetate treatments drawing on herringbone and plaid.
The presentation also introduced a narrow fit for Joseph Abboud for the first time, defined as eye sizes under 49, extending the fit conversation in the opposite direction from JOE’s established extended-fit offering.
The trend takeaway was specific rather than revolutionary: Familiar men’s shapes are gaining dimension through transparent color, tonal gradients, mixed materials, suiting-derived pattern, and more deliberate fit options.
