Nov. 29, 2023 — Myopia Profile has introduced a new tool developed with input from clinicians and industry advisers. The Managing Myopia Guidelines Infographic simplifies myopia management processes and practices to empower eyecare professionals when prescribing and communicating ongoing care for young patients.
Originally launched in 2019, the guide has been extensively updated and is now available in 10 languages with another seven still in development.
According to Kate Gifford, BAppSc (Optom), Ph.D., the resource assists ECPs in delivering optimal care by streamlining complexities in myopia management by providing evidence-based prescribing guidelines and communication strategies. “From the initial exam chair consultation to post-visit education and long-term clinical care, it guides practitioners in every step of the myopia management journey,” she says.
The guide is organized by color schemes, with the predominately blue section acting as a chairside reference guide featuring information on myopia risk factors, prescribing recommendations, follow-up schedules, and evaluation of long-term outcomes. The multicolored section involves communication tactics when discussing treatment with patients and parents, addressing visual environments, available interventions, contact lens wear, and the overall importance of myopia management. The guide also features a take-home brochure for patients.
The infographic also includes QR codes that link to further information on Myopia Profile’s website for ECPs and MyKidsVision.org for parents or guardians.
Myopia Profile has developed accompanying resources to assist ECPs in effectively utilizing the guide. An article, “Using the Managing Myopia Guidelines Infographics,” includes insights and links for additional reading on information hosted on MyKidsVision.org. Dr. Gifford further elaborates on practical applications in this video.
“Our commitment extends beyond the creation and design of the infographic to guarantee that ECPs also have the necessary information to integrate it into their practices, including in clinical communication and staff training,” says Dr. Gifford. “Ensuring they can effectively leverage this resource is essential for enhanced patient care and education.”
