Aug. 16, 2023 — The inaugural Myopia Action Month takes place this September, and Myopia Profile has announced several developments ahead of the international initiative.
An effort to combat the escalating prevalence of childhood myopia, Myopia Action Month connects eyecare professionals with free education, resources, and insights to provide tools and techniques they can apply in practice. The dedicated webpage hosts a survey to help organizers shape curriculum assets, evidence-based and clinically relevant educational materials and learning tools, free courses and seminars, and more.
“Early intervention and elevating the standard of pediatric vision care are pivotal in improving outcomes for children with myopia,” says Kate Gifford, BAppSc (Optom), Ph.D., cofounder of Myopia Profile. “Myopia Action Month encourages even more ECPs to be a part of the solution by providing them with the educational materials and clinical practice tools necessary to start taking action now, or for those already involved, to have a greater impact.”
Beyond the upcoming monthlong myopia educational event, the recently redesigned Myopia Profile website includes resources designed to streamline the myopia learning experience. New features include the Myopia Control Product Compendium, which provides articles, case studies, and science reviews alongside information on products for myopia control, intended to help ECPs understand the available options, their effectiveness, and how to best prescribe them. Another new addition is the Knowledge Center, with more than 500 encyclopedic entries of clinical and science articles.
Dr. Gifford says, “We invested countless hours in building the Myopia Control Product Compendium and the enhanced Knowledge Center, driven by our belief in their potential to revolutionize how ECPs approach research and treatment knowledge, and how it would ultimately impact patient care.”
