Jan. 3, 2024 — Prevent Blindness has announced it is once again participating in January’s National Glaucoma Awareness Month. To help raise awareness of one of the leading causes of blindness in the U.S., the nonprofit offers a variety of free educational resources for patients, care partners, and eyecare professionals on its dedicated webpage, including downloadable fact sheets, shareable social media graphics in English and Spanish, and educational videos.
In partnership with Responsum Health, Prevent Blindness hosts a free platform available in multiple languages, The Glaucoma Community, featuring educational content, a personalized newsfeed, and a moderated chat where users can connect to share experiences, advice, and support. A promotional toolkit for The Glaucoma Community is available for health care professionals and includes printable flyers, social media content, and PowerPoint slides.
Prevent Blindness released a new video, “Focus on Eye Health Patient Story: Glaucoma,” featuring Prevent Blindness associate director of eye health services Tasha R. Lockridge as she shares her personal journey with glaucoma. Additionally, glaucoma specialist at Virginia Eye Consultants and assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School Constance Okeke, MD, MSCE, joins Prevent Blindness president and CEO Jeff Todd for the “Understanding Glaucoma” and “Information and Resources for Glaucoma Patients” episodes in the Prevent Blindness Focus on Eye Health Expert Series.
“With early detection and adherence to treatment, sight can be saved from glaucoma,” says Todd. “We invite everyone to utilize our free resources to learn about glaucoma and the steps that must be taken today to preserve vision for years to come.”
