Oct. 24, 2024 — The 32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair is set to take place Nov. 6-8 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organized by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA). This year's event, themed "Seeing is Believing," will showcase innovative eyewear products and technologies from more than 700 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions.
"This year’s Hong Kong International Optical Fair, a long-standing industry highlight for over 30 years, is more international than ever,” says HKTDC acting executive director Sophia Chong. “Exhibitors worldwide are aligning their products with key trends in technology, lifestyle, functionality, and sustainability to capture expanded market opportunities."
The trade show organizers note that Hong Kong ranks as the third-largest exporter of eyewear and frames, with the total export value of the sector estimated at HK$19.9 billion in 2023. The smart eyewear sector, a focus of the fair, has grown globally to over HK$40 billion in 2023, with projections suggesting it could surpass HK$100 billion by 2029.
The fair will feature exhibitors from regions including Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Prominent Hong Kong brands, along with group pavilions from Mainland China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, will also showcase their latest products. Specific zones such as the Brand Name Gallery will display over 200 international brands, while other sections will focus on various categories including smart eyewear, sports and children's eyewear, lenses, accessories, diagnostic instruments, and more.
A highlight of the event is the 22nd Hong Kong International Optometric Symposium, scheduled for Nov. 7. Jointly organized by the HKTDC, the Hong Kong Optometric Association, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, this year’s symposium will focus on myopia control and prevention, featuring speakers from Hong Kong, mainland China, Australia, and Germany.
Additionally, the fair will host the 24th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition under the theme "Be Bold," with the results announced during the event. Winning designs will be displayed to showcase regional designs to international buyers.
For those unable to attend in person, the HKTDC is offering a hybrid model through an online platform, Click2Match, from Oct. 30 to Nov. 15. Buyers can also use the Scan2Match feature on the HKTDC Marketplace App to engage with exhibitors and continue their sourcing activities.
The fair will highlight several innovative products, including smart eyewear with advanced functionalities, flexible frame technologies, and sustainable materials. Examples include the AirGo Vision smart eyewear, Reform Eyewear's flexible frame technology, and eco-friendly nylon lenses designed to reduce carbon emissions during production.
The event will be open to trade visitors aged 18 and above, with onsite registration available for a fee of HK$100.
