The Vision Council (TVC) has released a new research report, Focused inSights 2025: Managed Vision Care, analyzing consumer and provider engagement with managed vision care plans in the U.S.
Part of TVC’s inSights Research Program, the study examines various plan types, including employer-sponsored, individual, Medicare, and Medicaid plans. It also highlights provider experiences with managed vision care and presents findings on plan enrollment, satisfaction levels, coverage details, and how insurance influences eyecare decisions.
According to the report, overall satisfaction with vision insurance increased between 2023 and 2024, with individual plans seeing the largest improvement—up 13 percentage points. The Net Promoter Score, a measure of customer loyalty, also rose for individual, Medicare, and Medicaid plans.
Other key findings indicate that more consumers intend to keep their vision coverage, particularly those with individual and Medicaid plans. Medicare plan members, however, are the most likely to switch providers. While confidence in understanding plan benefits remained high overall, Medicaid members reported the lowest levels of confidence in both 2023 and 2024.
The report also examines provider participation in managed vision care, noting that 8 out of 10 eyecare providers accept insurance to attract patients and expand access to services. EyeMed and VSP were identified as the most widely accepted plans.
The survey was conducted from Dec. 13, 2024, to Jan. 10, 2025, with responses from 1,500 U.S. adults and 150 eyecare providers. The full report is available through The Vision Council’s Research Download Center.
