Come Fly With Me
Easy, breezy styles and aviator shapes take flight this season
By Joanne F. Schell
In a world where being joyful and carefree has become increasingly challenging, designers are working to provide an escape through fashion--allowing us to travel to a happier and more fantastic atmosphere by playing dress-up. Accessories play a large role, transforming the plainest of ready-to-wear into something whimsical. Eyewear is no exception. There are a few key ways in which eyewear is participating in spring's fantasy fashion.
READY FOR TAKEOFF
The aviator is still a strong shape for spring. Variations on the classic style include the addition of crystals and the substitution of plastics for metals. The shape has also been slightly altered--some designers have lengthened the oval, while others have formed shield or wrap styles. Other aviators have been paired with technical materials and edgy lines, offering wearers a rocket-ride into a world of cyber style.
LIGHT AS A FEATHER
Minimalist frames mix well with the feminine fabric and floral prints of spring and summer. Even the once-weighty acetates are lightening up with gradient lenses, upswept styles, and airy designs that float on the face. Bright spring colors, such as pink, baby blue, orange, and lavender, compliment the current hues of haute couture.
