Hello, Yellow
by Amy Spiezio
Yellow is a tale of two colors: one side of the yellow equation is aggression, cowardice, warning, and hazard. The other side of yellow is the color of the sun, flowers, and many things bright and beautiful.
From a fashion perspective, the color is often treated as something to keep far from the face. But this year, the fashion world is giving yellow a break and the sunshine hue is getting a new lease on life as designers find fresh and face-flattering interpretations to add the color to eyewear that accentuates and flatters many different skin tones.
LETTING THE SUN SHINE
Eyewear is getting yellow into the color palette several new ways:
Nature calls: As an alternative to the increasingly popular green hues, soft and buttery yellow or tropical and passionate mango are organic apparel options.
Take a note: Yellow is a powerful and strong accent color. Because a little yellow goes a long way, a dash in the temple, the backside of the frame, or dotted along the brow line gives new life to classic combinations. This accent hue is particularly effectively used in combination with white.
Turtle time: Tortoise, a traditional optical favorite, has been given new life in amber and honey versions of retro, vintage, and preppy styles.
Cream and shimmer: Thanks to new material technology, the color palette has expanded the look of yellow to include golden shimmer, creamy undertones, and translucent accents for more flattering looks. EB
A BAD RAP |
---|
According to www.colormatters.com, yellow rooms make babies cry, husbands and wives fight, and workers throw fits. Why the bad color karma? Pure lemon yellow is the most optically fatiguing color because it reflects the most light, causing excessive stimulation. The good news: Yellow is the most visible color in the spectrum and, the experts at colormatters.com note, it is the first color noticed by the human eye. Usage tip: A softer shade and a smaller dab of color works best with yellow. |
