Chain Link
ILORI Enters Rx Arena
ILORI eyewear boutiques have added prescription products and services to its selection. The chain now carries ophthalmic styles from more than 10 designer brands and is filling prescriptions for both ophthalmic glasses and sunwear.
The new offerings debuted with a soft launch earlier this year and a full roll-out is anticipated for fall.
DESIGNER STYLE
The boutiques will dispense ophthalmic styles from Luxottica and other high-end designer brand manufacturers. Michael Hansen, vice president and general manager of Luxottica's luxury retail group, notes that feedback has been positive. “One year ago, we stared to include optical frames in the ILORI product assortment. Consumers started to respond very well, and were able to buy unique designers' optical frames. At that point, we knew we had an opportunity to expand our services,” Hansen says.
PRESCRIPTION LENSES
Prescriptions can be filled by the on-site optician at each of the boutique's 24 locations. Single vision and progressive sun and ophthalmic lenses featuring premium AR coating and anti-scratch coating will be sold at the ILORI locations. The lenses will be produced by Luxottica at its production center in Ohio.

ANSI Makes Changes to Z80.1 Standards
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) updated the following Z80.1 standards for prescription spectacle lenses:
1. Compensated power in the as-worn position expands to include distance and add power. Power tolerances are applied to compensated values and not the prescribed Rx.
2. Measurement of transmission power reverts to the sphere cylinder method without a change in tolerances.
3. Lens durability requirements added from International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards—specifications and test methods for AR from ISO 8980-4 and minimum requirements for lens surfaces claiming to be abrasion resistant from ISO 8989-5.
4. New lens abrasion resistance requirements apply only if the lens supplier claims abrasion resistance; the lens must resist abrasion at least as well as uncoated hard plastic (CR39) as determined by a rubbing test;
5. New AR requirements assess durability by subjecting the lens to mechanical rubbing, high humidity, and UV radiation. Post-sequence, lenses are inspected for delamination. Maximum reflectance of an AR-coated surface was changed to 2.5 percent.
The new standard can be purchased at webstore.ansi.org
