Wait Until Spring!

Even though the New Year is still weeks away, fashion is ready for spring. Around the world, fashion weeks conjured up spring with fresh new looks for men and women.

A few trends took a firm lead in the race for high style, including the following.

■ The classics. How long is retro going to stick around? A little longer, folks. Preppy menswear looks get prettified for women.

■ Black and white. Another continuing strong story is the simple black and white color palette. Whether in leather-wrapped vests or chiffon, ebony retains its hold on fashion even when the weather thaws next year.

■ Bolds. But color isn’t entirely gone, and orange, cobalt, and neons continue to make a splash.

■ Architecture. Spring sees the return of prominent shoulders, moto-shaping in jackets, and tailored details.

■ Nature. Green will be seen, whether in gentle floral patters or peeks of rich jungle tones peeking out from suit jackets.

OPTICAL

While many of the optical looks from the runway don’t make it into the dispensary in the original form, interpretations of catwalk creativity often show up to spice up inventory for the season.

This year is no exception. A few trends include:

■ Round. Small and round or large and round, circular is still strong.

■ Color in lenses. Vibrant hues and subtle shading enhance simple and classic shapes, especially red tones and blue shades. The mirror trend also continues into spring 2013.

■ Fat-cats. The ever-flattering cat-eye continues to be toyed with by designers, resulting in less angularity and more lush curves with accent points.

■ Aviator. Sideshields, mirrors, and color bring new life to the beloved classic sun look. EB

Preppy, dapper, debonair—men are dressing to impress this spring as the casual look continues to get tidied up with formalizing layers, including vests and jackets, as well as slim fits that will have young men eschewing beer pong for martini time.

In optical, classic geek chic shapes are refined, but maintain a chunky and substantial presence.
