PUSHING THE POLAR ENVELOPE

Gradient lenses are highly desired by wearers; however, most do not offer the high-efficiency glare-blocking power of polarization. Now, Younger Optics has launched NuPolar Gradient lenses, offering a 98% polarization coefficient. Traditional gradient lenses are tinted on the surface in a process that can sometimes lead to inconsistent results. NuPolar Gradient lenses are different because the gradient is encapsulated within the lens as part of the polarizing film.

This patented Encapsulated Gradient Technology prevents fading and discoloration of the lens over time, according to the company. It also removes the need to surface tint the lens, and that means consistent matching every time.

The polycarbonate lenses are available in a single vision range of -5.00 to +4.00, in 4- and 6-base curves (8-base curves are coming soon). They are available in gray and brown, and come with the NuPolar warranty.

HOYA’s Distortion-Free (DF) Optics featuring the Avantek mounting system has expanded, offering new designs and colors. The new carbon fiber temple design features a beta-titanium end piece and bridge and is available in black, silver, brown, and gun metal. Another design features a TR-90 temple with a beta titanium end piece and bridge, and is available in polish black, matte black, matte gray, matte slate, matte taupe, and transparent red.

DF Optics is rimless eyewear with a unique lens mount design that leaves the entire lens free from drill holes or any other visual distraction or distortion. The design has won several “best product” awards.

Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., announces that the Acuvue Oasys Brand contact lenses for Astigmatism is now the first and only silicone hydrogel toric contact lens with -2.75 cylinder (cyl) that is readily available, with no need to special order. Acuvue Oasys Brand provides coverage for 98 percent of spherical and astigmatic patients.

Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism parameters will now include -6.00 to +6.00 in 0.25D steps (cylinders: -0.75, -1.25, -1.75, -2.25, -2.75; axis: full circle in 10° steps) and from -6.50 to -9.00 in 0.50D steps (cylinders: -0.75, -1.25, -1.75, -2.25, -2.75; axis: full circle in 10° steps). The lenses offer the comfort of Hydraclear Plus technology and the visual stability of Acuvue’s Blink Stabilized design.

OYOBox was co-founded by Luba Stark and Michael Kriss, and is crafted by a European design team. Measuring 14.4”x7.5”x3.25”, the handcrafted compressed wood box is lined with a soft leatherette interior and a specially engineered interior partition to hold up to eight optical frames in place.

A shatterproof top window provides a convenient view of the contents and stainless steel ball hinges allow the box to open effortlessly. The velvet underside provides safe placement against the most easily scratched surfaces. VSP Optics Group has released a newer version of otto (One Touch to Optical), its iPad-based app that acts as a virtual optical assistant. New features include the ability to pull all patient information, appointments, and insurance information from the OfficeMate system, allowing the dispensing ECP to have all the necessary information at their fingertips without having to input during the fitting. Future integration (coming soon) includes all pertinent patient measurement and Rx data.

Otto offers dispensers patient education materials and patient measuring, among other features, in one hand-held device.

GET A SPARK

Shamir Insight has launched SPARK (Single-shot Panorameter Augmented Reality Kit), a 3D measuring tool that, using an iPad camera, can calculate all frame measurements based on one picture.

SPARK replaces Shamir’s Panorameter Kit, which was a manual measurement tool that allowed ECPs to take patients’ as-worn measurements: panoramic angle, pantoscopic tilt, and vertex distance. The SPARK device takes all these measurements as well as the fitting height, mono PD, HBOX, VBOX, and DBL with just one picture. These as-worn measurements are necessary to customize several of Shamir’s freeform products to offer patients a more precise fit.

The device is user friendly and Shamir has created a short instructional video (located on its website) to walk users through the simple process.
