kate Young says that her path to fashion has always been clear—she even muses that, as a baby, her first word was “shoe.” But her big break came when she moved from working at Vogue—as a fashion market editor and even as editor Anna Wintour’s assistant—to assisting a stylist. Today, her star-studded client roster includes celebs such as Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez, Sienna Miller, and Dakota Johnson.
Here, the sought-after stylist and designer of the Kate Young for Tura eyewear collection sits down with EB to dish on her coveted sense of style.
Spring specs style inspo...
The inspiration for my collection comes from vintage frames, and Tura is a company with a lot of history and I really like to look at their archives. For this season, we did a take on a style that existed in their collection from decades ago. New colors, too—red and champagne that I never had before.
New collection directions…
In the past, my collection has been a bit more fashion-forward and editorial because that’s my background…but this season I wanted to distill the essence of my collection but make it a little bit more approachable and wearable for more people.
Beyond eyewear…
[At press time] I’m just now starting to work on the Met Ball [held this year on May 1, the Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York]. That’s one of my favorite things because it’s always custom, the jewelry is always amazing, it’s a little bit more over the top.
