A Cure for Complicated Coatings

VSP Optics has launched TechShield Anti-Reflective Coatings, a new portfolio designed to make AR easier to understand, dispense, and rely upon.

The portfolio is grouped in a way that eliminates the learning curve and simplifies dispensing, with four AR options—good, better, best, and blue light.

The product options are TechShield, TechShield Plus, TechShield Elite (each with ascending levels of cleanability, scratch resistance, and durability benefits in addition to glare control and UV protection), and TechShield Blue (which offers targeted protection from blue light exposure). All products in the portfolio carry a two-year warranty.

TechShield AR is available on all lens designs and materials, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.

New Lens Generators

Coburn Technologies introduces its next generation of Cobalt lens generator products—Cobalt NXT and its fully automated upgrade, Cobalt NXT+.

The Cobalt NXT is the successor to Coburn’s current free-form generator, the Cobalt DS. Together with the Cobalt NX generator, which was launched in March, the Cobalt NXT represents Coburn’s future-forward platform for lens surfacing. Some key features and advancements of the Cobalt NXT include a higher throughput, the ability to process all indices of lenses (including high index up to 1.74), and onboard engraving.

Cobalt NXT+ is built with the same footprint as the Cobalt NXT, but offers full automation for the lens generating process. NXT+ comes with a pick-and-place system and conveyor, eliminating the need for an operator to load and unload lenses.

Edging Made Easier

MEI has introduced an advanced version of its popular Shape Finder, the optical scanning device designed to improve and complete the functionality of its EzFit all-in-one edging system for small labs and large retailers. Shape Finder EVO combines the features of MEI’s Shape Finder, a computer, and a bar code reader in a multifunction, user-friendly device. According to MEI, the new unit prevents the errors commonly associated with standard camera-based units.

The onboard integrated computer uses Wi-Fi connections to save standard or special jobs directly to the computer or server, as well as modify previous jobs. Shape Finder EVO is also available in a blocker version (shown here) that allows direct lens blocking.

Expanded Parameters for ULTRA Astigmatism

Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Astigmatism contact lenses are now available in expanded parameters. This product expansion extends the lens offering to +6.00D to -9.00D in 0.25D steps (in 0.50D steps above -6.00D) in cylinder powers of -0.75D, -1.25D, -1.75D, -2.25D, and axes of 10°-180˚ (in 10˚ steps), providing eyecare professionals the opportunity to offer the toric lens to more of their astigmatic patients.

Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Astigmatism contact lenses combine MoistureSeal technology, which helps to maintain 95% of lens moisture for 16 hours, and OpticAlign design, engineered for stability to promote a successful first fit.
