A PAL With Optimized Reading
Signet Armorlite, Inc., announces the addition of the Kodak Unique DRO Progressive Lens to its Kodak Lens Professional Series, a backside progressive lens specifically designed to provide comfortable, clear vision at all distances while optimizing the reading zone.
To accommodate the increased use of the reading area for mobile devices, Kodak Unique DRO Lens includes Dynamic Reading Optimization (DRO), technology that improves the overall optical performance of the lens while significantly reducing oblique astigmatic errors in the reading area.
When compared with the original Kodak Unique lens, Signet Armorlite says, the Kodak Unique DRO lens increases the effective reading area an average of 17% and decreases total oblique astigmatic errors in the reading zone an average of 54%—allowing the eyes to comfortably focus in the reading area for longer periods of time.
The lens is also available as an HD design. The HD stands for “High-Definition” and utilizes prescription compensation measurements to more precisely adapt the lens to the patient’s viewing needs.
Both designs, available exclusively to independent ECPs, are offered in six corridor lengths and a variety of materials.

New Photochromic Options
HOYA is offering patients expanded choice when it comes to photochromic technology with its newest Sensity lens launches—Sensity Shine and Sensity Dark.
Sensity Shine activates behind the windshield of the car and offers wearers a fashion-forward look with a groundbreaking clear-to-dark mirror coating. There are three optimal combinations: a neutral gray tone, a more flamboyant brown, and a lively and slightly intense green.
Sensity Dark is the next generation of light-reactive technology: The three color options—Bronze Brown, Silver Gray, and Emerald Green—will darken more outdoors, activate behind the windshield of the car, and fade back to full clarity. The lenses are priced the same as original Sensity, according to HOYA.

Extra-Dark Photochromic
VSP Optics debuts SunSync Drive XT, an extra-active, light-reactive lens that, according to the company, gets darker and stays dark in the car. Unlike standard photochromic lenses, SunSync Drive XT is activated by both UV and visible light, allowing the lenses to remain dark in a car, regardless of whether the windows block UV light or not.
SunSync Drive XT lenses retain all the features of the original SunSync light-reactive lenses, including ultra-fast activation, 100% UV protection, targeted blue light filtration, durability, and SunSync’s one-year, 100% satisfaction guarantee for VSP members.
SunSync Drive XT is available to order on Unity progressives, Unity single vision, and Ethos progressives in gray or brown.

Expanded Blue Light Protection
Essilor has launched a branded collection of blue-light-filtering lenses called Essential Blue Series, providing a combination of harmful blue light protection and clarity all in one lens, throughout 100% of its core product portfolio—including both progressive and single-vision designs. Previously, only 15% of Essilor’s products offered blue light protection in a clear lens (Varilux digital, Eyezen+ single vision, and Crizal Prevencia lenses).
The lenses filter up to 20% of harmful blue light, according to Essilor, providing up to three times more blue light protection than standard clear lenses, giving ECPs the option of prescribing Essilor’s standard lens tech or Essilor lenses with expanded blue light protection.

More Photo Fusion Colors
Carl Zeiss Vision has added new colors to its ZEISS PhotoFusion self-tinting lens portfolio. Extra Gray, Pioneer Green, and Blue join the current portfolio of brown and gray colors, and they have the same performance features—clear indoors and quick to darken outdoors—as the original releases.
The new Extra Gray color gets darker than the original gray; Pioneer Green has the timeless gray-green sun lens tint when activated; and the Blue is a color for patients who want a more attention-grabbing tint color. The extended color range is available in the most popular ZEISS lens designs, including its custom free-form, semi-finished progressives, and semi-finished SV and multifocal lenses.
