Fayiz Mahgoub, O.D., is leading the next generation of optometrists.
In 2015, he founded the Young Leaders in Optometry organization, bringing together some of the brightest young minds in the industry.
Today, just one year out of optometry school, the Colorado native and the newest addition to Boulder Vision Associates is an associate editor for odsonfb.com, the chief creative officer for Defocus Media, and a member of the National Optometric Association’s Strategic Planning Committee as well as The Optical Foundation’s Advisory Committee.
Here, the standout young O.D. shares his dawn to dusk.

9 a.m. Wake up and review my list of tasks for the day.
9:30 a.m. Work on panel events that I’m organizing for Young Leaders in Optometry and Defocus Media at upcoming conferences.
10:30 a.m. Answer emails.
11 a.m. Begin a podcast recording session for one of the podcasts that I host for Defocus Media.
12:30 p.m. Head out to clinic for the afternoon and take advantage of the commute to listen to a good audiobook.
6:30 p.m. Wrap up patient care and pick up with my audiobook on the drive home.
7:30 p.m. Work on designing/prototyping/testing various devices for my startup, Augmented Vision Labs.
12:30 a.m. Put together a list of tasks for the next day.
12:45 a.m. Relax and watch some Netflix.
2 a.m. Head to bed.
