TREND ONE: DIGITAL IMMERSION.
Both kids and adults are experiencing an incredible surge in screen time during the coronavirus pandemic. Now home-schooling on digital devices, most children ages 6-12 say they are spending at least 50% more time in front of screens daily, according to new data from SuperAwesome, a kids technology company.
Enter the Eyewear Solution:
Blue-light-filtering Rx lenses and plano blue light eyewear frame-and-lens packages are going to be needed by both kids and their parents.
GOT THE BLUES?
Consumers will find value in having lenses that protect their eyes—and the eyes of their children—more than ever today. Blue-light-filtering Rx lenses can be prescribed for any Rx-ready frame.
Shown: The Fendi FF0422 from Safilo, an oversized square gold semi-rimless style.
TREND TWO: FULL COVERAGE.
A majority of Americans—62%—reported April 14 that they have worn a mask on their face outside their homes, and an additional 24% of U.S. adults now say they are considering doing so. As face masks become de rigueur daily wear, full-coverage wraparound eyewear and even face shields that attach to eyewear are following suit as a protective measure.
FACING THE WORLD.
Safilo debuts the Aegis Shield by Smith, a full-coverage face shield available for ECPs and their patients (plus health care workers), produced in its U.S. manufacturing plant in Clearfield, UT. The shield package, with shield mounted onto Smith’s Aegis wraparound frame style outfitted with clear lenses, is anti-fog, high-clarity, N95 face mask-compatible, and Rx compatible with Smith’s Ocular Docking Station. It is also medical-approved, meeting ANSI Z87.1 “splash certification requirements,” and EN166 shield requirements. Available for order soon in addition to other models such as Safilo’s Polaroid STAYSAFE1 safety glasses and STAYSAFE2 shield.
TREND THREE: MOOD ENHANCING.
The pandemic at hand has engendered everything from social distancing and isolation to financial hardships and anxiety for people globally. With an eye to lifting spirits and boosting focus, eyewear fitted with mood-enhancing lenses will appeal to mentally fatigued patients looking for a better frame of mind.
IN THE MOOD.
The Oberlin from Morgenthal Frederics is part of the frame maker’s ChromoClear collection, which “embraces color science to enhance body and mind.” Handcrafted in sustainable, biodegradable acetate, each frame in the line boasts Zeiss BioChrom lenses that have been shown in clinical testing to enhance mood and performance. Shown here is the Rose Invigorate red lens, with a suggested use to “boost energy and confidence under pressure, mentally prepare and pump up for a challenging situation.”
