March 18, 2022 — Black EyeCare Perspective (BEP) will host its second annual Signing Day on Tuesday, April 26, to celebrate BEP’s Pre-Optometry Club members who have been accepted into a school or college optometry, as well as recognizing any student who will be part of the class of 2026.
BEP’s 13% Promise initiative is a call for Black representation in the eyecare industry to align with the U.S. population. Since August 2020, BEP’s Pre-Optometry Club has grown to more than 105 members. The inaugural Signing Day event, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision, celebrated the acceptance of 34 students into the class of 2025. Through its charitable arm, Diversity Perspective Inc. and Scholarship America, BEP awarded $23,500 in matriculation grants to 19 recipients, which connected students to resources and opportunities in the eyecare industry and beyond.
Club members had the option to participate in a video contest with three different categories: scripted school announcements, tributes to loved ones, and videos using beats provided by the club. Winners will be announced at the event.
