April 13, 2023 — Center For Sight is accepting applications for free cataract surgery through Mission Cataract, an annual event where individuals without health insurance or other means to pay can undergo cataract surgery for no cost.
Eye care professionals who may have interested patients can share the application download here or call 941-480-2143. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 26. To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or have a green card, cannot have insurance or be enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid, and must be living at or below the poverty guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
Surgery dates will be held in July and August at Center For Sight’s AAAHC-accredited surgery centers in Sarasota, FL, and Naples, FL.
Mission Cataract has been taking place for 30 years. Center For Sight relies on partners ASCRS Foundation/Operation Sight, LENSAR Inc., and the Center For Sight Foundation to continue offering free cataract surgery to those in need.
Performing the free surgeries are David Shoemaker, M.D., founder and director of Cataract and Lens Replacement Surgery at Center For Sight, along with cataract surgeons William L. Soscia, M.D.; Joshua W. Kim, M.D.; Joaquin O. De Rojas, M.D.; Priya M. Mathews, M.D.; Jon Berlie, M.D.; George Brinning, M.D.; and Glenn Campbell, M.D.
