Aug. 30, 2023 — Hoya Vision Care has launched a sustainability program, One Vision, which is embedded in its corporate strategy based on three pillars: environment, community, and workplace.
Initiatives for the environment pillar include waste prevention, with a focus on reducing water usage in manufacturing; environmental protection and employee safety and health; and carbon dioxide emission reduction, with a goal to reach 100% renewable electricity by 2040 and an interim target of 60% by 2030.
The community pillar will focus on bridging the vision care gap that affects an estimated 2.2 billion people with vision impairment or blindness—according to the Global Eye Health Report found that nearly half of these cases could be prevented or corrected with proper access to eye care. By 2025, Hoya’s three-year partnership with Orbis International, launched last year, will have screened more than 500,000 children affected by vision inequality.
The workplace pillar will work to foster Hoya’s culture of “sustainable leadership at all levels grounded in its core values, attracting and nurturing exceptional talent and enabling outstanding team achievement in an inclusive environment,” Hoya explains. The company currently offers more than 16,000 training courses in 13 languages—an effort to improve internal talent mobility and leadership selection and development.
“As a global business, we have a clear responsibility to focus on climate change, to work with and give back to the communities where we operate, including reducing the vision health gap, and to build a strong, highly trained workforce filled with career opportunities to ensure a robust future,” says Alexandre Montague, CEO of Hoya Vision Care.
The company will report the progress of One Vision annually.
