Feb. 14, 2023 — Myopia Profile has announced the launch of Myopia Management with Spectacles, an online course designed to bring treatment to more children worldwide.
Myopia Management with Spectacles introduces the latest research on myopia management lens designs and evidence-based foundational knowledge on prescribing to children of all ages. Featuring interactive content, the two-hour online course is designed to cover all aspects of spectacle lens prescribing for myopia—from first corrections in young children to progressive addition and bifocal lenses.
“Spectacle lenses are a hot topic in the field of myopia management with the potential to help a vast number of children worldwide who may not have access to or be candidates for other treatment options,” says Myopia Profile cofounder Kate Gifford, Ph.D., BAppSc(Optom)Hons. “We know that managing myopia early can provide kids with more stable vision over time and help head off serious eye health issues that can develop in adulthood.”
The course explores learning objectives such as clinical rationale for specific use of single-vision spectacles in children with myopia, the evidence for various myopia control spectacle interventions, a simple comparison of spectacle lenses to other treatments based upon scientific evidence, understanding the latest technology lenses for myopia control, and practical aspects of spectacle lens prescribing including frame fitting and parent communication.
Approval is pending for COPE certification, though qualification has been achieved in the U.K. (GOC CPD) and is underway for Australia and New Zealand.
Those who register before Feb. 20 will receive a 50% discount off the regular course fee of $45. To preview the first learning chapter for free and to register, click here. For a course overview video, click here.
