Nov. 29, 2023 — North American Coating Laboratories (NACL) has announced the phasing out of its Rx prescription ophthalmic coating department. NACL will cease processing Rx work for its customers on Jan. 1, 2024.
 
NACL shares that the decision reflects the evolving needs of eyewear manufacturers and labs, as labs are increasingly adopting their own coating equipment to meet the growing demand for anti-reflective and mirror coatings.
 
In response, the company diversified its coating capabilities with a focus on industrial, infrared, and specialty hard-coating areas. Terminating its Rx prescription ophthalmic coating department will allow the company to focus on innovations in these specialized fields.
 
Any work received after Jan. 1, 2024, will be returned at the customer’s expense.
