Jan. 10, 2024 — Prevent Blindness is accepting nominations for both the 2024 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health and the fifth annual Rising Visionary Award.
Nominations must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 5, at noon EST. A volunteer committee comprising leaders and professionals across the industry will review all nominations before selecting award recipients, who will be formally presented with the awards at the 13th annual Prevent Blindness Focus on Eye Health Summit taking place July 10-11. Recipients must be available to provide a virtual presentation at the summit.
Created as a living memorial to the former CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia, the Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health honors an individual, group, or organization that has made significant contributions to advancing public health in the area of vision and eye health at the community, state, national, and/or international level.
Nomination requirements include a 500-word maximum description of why the nominee is deserving of the award along with a one-page biographical sketch (as dictated by the National Institute of Health), a one-page curriculum vitae of the nominee, or a one-page background of the group/organization. Additional information that is relevant to the nomination is also allowed.
The Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award honors a student or resident in a health-related field who submits the best overall application and essay addressing this year’s theme, “Being Seen and Heard.” To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be a current student, intern, or resident of a health-related field located in the U.S. Submission requirements include an application cover sheet, a 500-word essay, curriculum vitae and personal statement, and letters of recommendation.

The 2023 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health recipient is Dean A. VanNasdale Jr., O.D., Ph.D., associate professor at the Ohio State University College of Optometry, and the 2023 Rising Visionary Award recipient is Christina Ambrosino, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
