April 4, 2024 — BostonSight has announced the expansion of its annual FitAcademy educational series, two-day events that train eyecare providers in designing, fitting, and managing scleral lenses in interactive classrooms and experiential settings.
Launched six years ago as a retreat for cornea and contact lens residents, FitAcademy for Residents will now include scleral lens fitters, and two new programs, FitAcademy Latin America and FitAcademy Immersive, will offer training to practicing doctors who wish to advance their skills.
Limited to just 10 attendees, FitAcademy Immersive will explore the use of scleral lens designs and treatment methodologies to treat a range of conditions and how to comanage patients with other eyecare professionals. Participants will also attend didactic presentations, learn methods for lens application and removal in BostonSight’s dedicated patient training room, and visit the nonprofit’s onsite manufacturing lab to learn more about lens design, manufacturing, edge finishing, and modification processes.
Led by BostonSight’s senior vice president, Karen Carrasquillo, O.D., Ph.D., FAAO, FSLS, FBCLA, FitAcademy Latin America will take place May 18-19 in Medellín, Colombia; FitAcademy Immersive will take place June 27-28 at the BostonSight Clinic in Needham, MA; and FitAcademy for Residents will take place in Boston Sept. 13-14 by invitation only.
