Oct. 2, 2024 — BostonSight held its annual FitAcademy retreat for cornea and contact lens residents and fellows at the New England College of Optometry (NECO) in Boston Sept. 13-14.
This year marked the sixth edition of the retreat, which provides specialized education in scleral lens fitting and management of corneal and ocular surface disorders, including conditions like keratoconus and dry eye disease. The event, hosted at NECO’s Clinical Training Center, featured hands-on training and presentations on scleral lens application, patient management, and fitting techniques.
A total of 31 cornea and contact lens residents and fellows at schools and colleges of optometry and accredited fellowship sites throughout the U.S. and Canada attended the two-day retreat, providing opportunities for collaboration and networking with fellow clinicians in an intimate setting. BostonSight’s funding, along with sponsorship from NECO, Glaukos Corporation, Contamac, and Tangible Science, enabled students to attend the program at no cost.
The program was led by BostonSight senior vice president of clinical and professional affairs and FitAcademy director Karen G. Carrasquillo, O.D., Ph.D, FAAO, FSLS, FBCLA and supported by BostonSight staff, as well as invited faculty from Wills Eye Hospital, Centro de la Visión in Chile, Tarsus Pharmaceuticals, NECO, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and Zaragoza University in Spain.
Each year, BostonSight sends invitations for the event to residency programs, with residency directors determining attendance. More information about FitAcademy is available here.
