Sept. 26, 2024 — The winners of the 31st edition of the Silmo d'Or Awards were announced on Friday, Sept. 20, as part of the Silmo Paris optical trade show, which took place Sept. 20-23 at the Paris Nord Villepinte.
The awards recognize companies, brands, and products for their innovation in design and tech, in addition to their sustainability efforts, throughout the eyewear industry. Here are the winners across various categories:
Technological Innovation in Eyewear:
- OOmade received the award for its OOmade SAV 3D solution, which offers real-time repairs of broken frames using bio-sourced materials and 3D-printing technology.
- EssilorLuxottica was honored for the Ray-Ban Meta with AI, a new generation of smart glasses with artificial intelligence (AI) integration.
Children's Eyewear:
- Lafont was awarded for Roudoudou, a frame designed for premature infants, featuring bio-based materials derived from castor oil.
Sports Eyewear:
- Out Of won with Acuity, designed to correct a wide range of visual disorders while offering enhanced clarity and precision in visual correction without compromising weight or field of view. The lenses are milled from a single block of material to ensure precise and uniform visual correction, according to the company.
Vision:
- Transitions Optical was recognized for Transitions Gen S, a dynamic lens that adapts to all lighting conditions with optimized kinetics and darkening levels, according to the company.
Material/Equipment:
- Eyesoft was honored for its Check Lenscape, a device that offers advanced vision diagnostics using virtual reality and eye tracking.
- MicroUnit was recognized for its Lona 5 eyewear design and manufacturing software, which simplifies eyewear design for nonspecialists, according to the company.
Low Vision:
- Accessolutions was awarded for VoiSee, an electronic monocular that aids visually impaired users with magnification and image enhancement features.
Optical Frame Labels:
- Nina Ricci was honored for its SNR403, an oversized acetate frame blending vintage design with modern elements.
Sunglasses Labels:
- Zilli won with its ZI65109 C01, featuring leather inserts, gold titanium, and integrated flex hinges.
Sunglasses Designer:
- Prodesign was recognized for its creative approach with the Censur model, a sculptural design that highlights its “thin-sheet construction,” shares Prodesign.
Optical Frame Designer:
- Pierre Eyewear received recognition for its acetate frame, Lady.
Special Jury Prize:
- Parasite Design won for the Morph Alpha, a frame crafted from recycled spare parts and old stock, designed by Clara Besnard.
Sustainability Award:
- Skans was recognized for its minimalist and sustainable approach to eyewear production, reducing waste and promoting recycling by limiting the need for redesigns, maintaining the availability of identical spare parts for all models, and offering on-demand production to prevent overstocking.
- Vanni was commended for its social and environmental initiatives, including employee training on sustainability and local community support.
