The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair concluded on Nov. 7, attracting around 12,000 buyers from 92 countries and regions. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organized by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), the three-day event underscored emerging trends in smart eyewear, sustainable materials, and health care-focused designs.
Overseas participants primarily came from Mainland China, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, the U.S., and several ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Themed “Bright Eyes • New Horizons,” this year’s fair showcased products and innovations focused on smart technology, sustainability, silver health care, and functionality and design. More than 200 brands exhibited at the Brand Name Gallery, including Ted Baker from the U.K., Nano Vista from Spain, and Thrasher from the U.S.
Exhibitors demonstrated innovations such as eyewear integrated with artificial intelligence and eco-friendly materials. Shenzhen Muedo Technology Co. presented dual-mode smart reading glasses featuring auto-focusing lenses and stereo sound, while Hong Kong-based Winky International Limited showcased biodegradable eyewear collections.
In addition to the robust exhibition, the event hosted the 25th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, highlighting local design innovation under the theme “Blending Tradition and Technology.” Fung Wai-kuen’s “Be With You” won the Open Group category for its safety alert function for elderly users, while student designer Shum Chui-shan won first place for “Unique Perspectives,” inspired by traditional Chinese motifs and tie-dye techniques.
The fair also continued its Exhibition+ hybrid model, combining in-person and online platforms to extend networking and sourcing opportunities. Participants can continue to connect through HKTDC’s Click2Match business-matching service until Nov. 14.
