The American Academy of Optometry (AOA)’s Comprehensive Eye Care Section has officially opened submissions for its annual Ocular Photography Contest. Entries will be accepted through 11:45 p.m. CST on July 1, with winners to be notified by Aug. 1.
The contest is open to optometrists, who may submit up to two entries per category:
- Anterior Segment: Images of the lids, conjunctiva, cornea, contact lenses, iris, lens, angle/gonioscopy, and digital color photographs
- Posterior Segment: Images of the vitreous, optic nerve, retina, color or red-free photos, fluorescein angiography/ICG, and fundus autofluorescence
Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges across seven criteria: focus, exposure, field of view, difficulty of capturing the image, absence of distracting elements, lighting, and overall visual impact.
A grand prize winner will be selected in each category, with recipients receiving complimentary registration to Academy 2025 Boston, scheduled for Oct. 8-11, and publication of their winning image in the Academy’s fall newsletter. Additionally, two honorable mentions per category will be recognized. All winning images will be featured in a photo display during the annual meeting.
For contest guidelines, sample entry forms, and additional information, participants are encouraged to review the official contest page.
