Silmo Optical Design Contest Finalists Announced

Silmo Paris 2025, the optical trade show scheduled to take place Sept. 26-29, has announced the finalists for the fourth edition of the Optical Design Contest.

Silmo Paris 2025, the optical trade show scheduled to take place Sept. 26-29 at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center, has announced the finalists for the fourth edition of its Optical Design Contest.

Aimed at uncovering leading talents, the contest encourages design students from around the world to push the boundaries of innovation and design within the optical industry. This year's contest theme, "Superhero Glasses," prompts participants to create designs which "go beyond mere corrective function to become instruments of transformation, empowerment, and reinvention of vision and the world."

Silmo Paris attendees interested in the contest, which is presided over by Michel Penneman, a renowned international designer and architect, can stop by the Optical Design Contest stand, where winners will be announced on Friday, Sept. 26.

Aestral, designed by Louis Sence of the Nantes Atlantique School of Design in France, is a visor sunglass style inspired by the Silver Surfer comic book character.
Bonewave, designed by Mattéo Muzelet-Guédon of the Nantes Atlantique School of Design in France, are bone conduction sports glasses designed to fuse safety, functionality, and performance.

 

Eco, by Beatriz Delcole Belonsi, Gyovanna Marraya de Paula Castoriano, Júlia Fernandes Nascimento, Lucca José Lauro, and Kallany Leandrini Paulos of Mauà Institute in Brazil, is inspired by animal echolocation. The biomimetic style is designed as a navigation aid to help visually impaired individuals detect obstacles using sensors and vibrating motors.

 

Gaia, designed by Hélène Caffin-Pinon of the Design School of Saint-Étienne in France, is an augmented reality style for children that recognizes plants, combining education and environmental awareness.

 

Loveyes, designed by Camille Jourdren of Troyes School of Design in France, is a style inspired by dating apps which features real-time display and interactions to fuel in-person connections.

 

The Lunettes De Vision Emotionnelle, by Quentin Boudier of the Troyes School of Design in France, is designed to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder and social inclusion by utilizing AI to recognize and display emotions through camera input, voice analysis, and radar technology.

 

Neon, by Brice Lebeul of Nantes Atlantique School of Design in France, is a futuristic frame that merges fashion with technology. Inspired by superheroes, the style is designed to symbolize personal transformation.

 

Sentinelle+, by Barthélémy Camoesas of Nantes Atlantique School of Design in France, features AI emergency response attributes (symptom recognition, guidance for first aid actions, geolocation, and automatic calling) designed for "everyday heroes."

 

 

 

The Inuit Glasses, by Yasmin Kaufman of Shenkar College in Israel, are designed to blend heritage with modern tech, as they are inspired by traditional Inuit glasses used to prevent snow blindness.

 

The Sensory Glasses, by Gaia Malantuono of Linnaeus University in Sweden, are designed for individuals with conditions such as ADHD or autism by incorporating customizable elements and sensory gadgets.
