VSP Vision announced that its charitable program, VSP Eyes of Hope, provided access to eye care for more than 140,000 people in 2025 and held 83 mobile clinic events, exceeding its goal for the year.
Earlier in 2025, the organization expanded its mobile clinic fleet and set a target of 70 events in recognition of VSP Vision’s 70th anniversary. This year also marked two decades of mobile outreach for VSP Eyes of Hope, which began during recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina.
“Expanding access to care was central to our founding optometrists’ mission 70 years ago and remains central to who we are today,” says VSP Vision President and CEO Michael Guyette.
According to the company, recent mobile clinic stops included Island Harvest Food Bank in Melville, NY, where nearly 40 people received no-cost eye exams and prescription glasses, and B.T. Washington Elementary School in Tampa, FL, where nearly 200 students received eye exams, glasses, and books through a partnership with Bess the Book Bus.
“Healthy vision is the foundation for both academic success and lifelong opportunity—and it’s a critical component in helping students develop a love for reading. When a child can finally see the words on a page clearly, everything changes,” says Jennifer Frances, founder and executive director of Bess the Book Bus. “Yet for far too many students, access to vision care remains out of reach. That’s why, for more than 15 years, we’ve proudly worked with VSP Eyes of Hope to provide essential vision care and build a web of services that removes barriers to learning, so students can truly thrive in the classroom and beyond.”
VSP Eyes of Hope plans to continue its mobile outreach in 2026, with events already scheduled in collaboration with literacy organizations, including Bess the Book Bus. The program encompasses mobile clinics, disaster relief efforts, and donations of eyewear and readers.
VSP Vision reports that more than 4.3 million people have received no-cost eye care and eyewear through VSP Eyes of Hope initiatives to date.
