
The World Council of Optometry (WCO) has announced the recipients of its 2025 international awards, which will be presented on June 26 during the Optometry’s Meeting and 5th World Congress of Optometry in Minneapolis.
Susan Cooper, OD, FAAO, has been selected for WCO’s highest honor, recognizing her long-term contributions to the organization and the profession. A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Dr. Cooper has held leadership roles in Canadian optometry and with WCO, including terms as president (2011–2013) and managing director (2018–2023).
Abraham Bromberg, OD, is the recipient of the International Optometrist Award for his work in advancing optometry in Mexico and Latin America. With more than 50 years in the field, Dr. Bromberg has held academic and leadership positions and is currently president of Consejo Optometría México.
Sandra Wang-Harris, OD, MPH, will deliver the memorial lecture honoring public health optometrist Karen Sparrow. Dr. Wang-Harris has worked extensively in underserved communities both in the U.S. and internationally and currently serves as an associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. The lecture will take place on June 26 at 3 p.m. in Room 211B of the Minneapolis Convention Center.
